response to "Coming to an end

Thank you for the kind words about the project. I think this has been an amazing experience for me personally and I am so thankful that Yes I Can Science.ca gave me the opportunity to be able to pass this experience on to so many more people. I hope that all participating schools learned many novel, exciting things, and more importantly, had fun doing it.

You are welcome to reach me at any time via email at York University (thawke@yorku.ca). I would be happy to chat with you about the progress of this Antarctic research, or my other research into adult muscle stem cells.

Thanks again!

Dr. Hawke

It has been very interesting as a teacher to watch my students explore and participate in real science. For the most part, the students have had positive and worthwhile experiences. All of my students that participated are now mulling over what they learned and how they want to summarize it for you. They have researched the weather, they have done research about Weddell Seals and looked at the overall conditions in the Antarctica. They have also tried the experiments Keeping Tom Warm and Snow and Ice. Although I am not sure they got some of the expected results, they had fun setting up and trying to run the experiments - they especially liked using dry ice. As your venture comes to an end, I hope my students remain as enthused and that you can provide us with the means to keep in touch so that we can find out how your research progresses....thanks, real science means so much more!!!
